The nyatiti is one of the instruments played in my home country of Kenya. I learned the technique from Ayub Ogada, co-tribesman of Barack Obama, who is of the Luo, a Nubian tribe that migrated to the Lake Victoria region hundreds of years ago, bringing ancient Egyptian musical talents with them. The Luo are related to the Acholi of Uganda, who speak a variant of jo-Luo and play a lyre called enanga or adungu.
