Dirk Campbell's skills as a composer are augmented by his experience in a wide variety of instrumental traditions. He has learned the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, the Balkans, Greece and Turkey, and has picked up instrumental techniques from Sardinia, Calabria, Algeria and Egypt; sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa; India, Indonesia and China. He has studied with Djivan Gasparian in Armenia, Theodhoros Kekes and Ghiannis Aramatanidhis in Greece, and with musicians from the Kurdish, Iranian and Albanian communities in London. He is a visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths College. He performs with Jan Hendrickse as the World Wind Band.
